Two months after losing its top position to the Hyundai Creta in August 2015, Mahindra Bolero has successfully won it back. In October 2015, Mahindra’s Bolero sold 7750 units as against the 7,225 units of Hyundai’s Creta. A narrow margin of about 500 units has made all the difference for the homegrown auto major.
Since its inception in India, October 2015 has also been the most accomplishing month for the South Korean carmaker, Hyundai. The company achieved its highest-ever domestic sales of 47,015 units in addition to the export sales of 14,777 units — successfully bringing the cumulative number to 61,792 units for the month.
Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Hyundai Motor India communicated the company’s target to maximize production and minimise the waiting period as the company expects the growth momentum to continue in the forthcoming months. The waiting period for some of the Creta variants had exceeded 6 months, which in turn compelled Hyundai to raise the compact SUV’s production from 5,000 units per month to 7,000 so as to meet the encouraging customer response. The company has now brought down the Creta diesel’s waiting period to 3 months, while that of the petrol variant is even lesser.
Creta kicked off to to an inaugural start of over 63,000 bookings till October 2015 and had become the highest selling SUV within the first month of its launch in July 2015. With an average sale of over 7,000 units per month and a total sales of 21,982 units, the Hyundai Creta yet remains the top-selling SUV if the total sales of the last three months are accumulated. As against this, the Mahindra Bolero sold 18,143 units in the same period. Only in October 2015 did the Bolero work back up to its lost place at the top.
Apart from the Bolero, the newly launched Mahindra TUV300 is also generating volumes for M&M. In the month of its launch, the TUV300 was seen locking horns with the Ford EcoSport and outselling it by a massive margin of 1200 units. Lucky month for the Mahindra Group, October 2015 was again seen drawing a mighty sales figure of 4551 units of the Mahindra TUV300 as against 3,417 units of the Ford EcoSport.
