UIDAI generates a unique 8-character Aadhaar card password for every individual on the basis of their demographic information. This Aadhaar card password is required to open and view their e-Aadhaar card. However, this Aadhar card password is different from their mAadhaar app password and cannot be changed.
What is Aadhaar Card Password
Aadhaar Card contains the Aadhaar number which is a 12-digit unique identification number for all Indian residents. An individual’s Aadhaar card has records of his biometric and demographic information which, if not protected, can infringe the privacy of an individual.
To make it safe and secure, UIDAI, the Aadhaar-issuing authority, provides a password-protected Aadhaar card pdf. This allows cardholders to use their Aadhaar only when they want to use it.

This 8 character password is a combination of the first four letters of your name written in CAPITAL (name as mentioned in the Aadhaar card) and your Year of Birth (in YYYY format). The different variations of an e-Aadhaar card password/ Aadhar card PDF password are detailed below:

Why is the Password Required
UIDAI keeps your e-Aadhaar file a password-protected PDF file because PDF is generally considered a safe digital file format and if the same is protected by a password, the security cover of the file increases.
To summarize, a combination of the first four letters of your name written in CAPITALS (name as mentioned in the Aadhaar card) and your Year of Birth (in YYYY format) is your Aadhaar card PDF password or simply your Aadhaar card password.

For downloading your e-Aadhaar card, you need to visit the aforementioned link and then follow the below steps:
Step 1: Click on “Download Aadhaar” and select the relevant option amongst “Enrolment ID/Aadhaar Number/Virtual ID”.
You can find your Enrolment ID along with the Date Stamp in the Acknowledgment slip you received when you registered for Aadhaar. The other options are your 12-digit Aadhaar number/ 16-digit Virtual ID.
- If you select ‘Enrolment Id’, you will have to fill in your 28-digit Enrolment number. However, if you select ‘Aadhaar’ or ‘Virtual ID’, you will have to fill in your 12 digit Aadhaar no or your 16-digit Virtual id
Step 2: Enter the captcha code that you see on the screen and then click on “Send OTP” to receive a One Time Password on your registered mobile no.
Step 3: Enter the OTP received and click on ‘Verify & Download’. Also, tick mark the check box if you want a masked Aadhaar card. Following this, a PDF file is downloaded into your device. That is your password-protected e-Aadhaar card.
As mentioned before, your online Aadhaar card (e-Aadhaar card) is password protected.
So, to open Aadhaar Card PDF file you have to use your e Aadhar card password:
- The password to your Aadhaar card PDF file is a combination of the first four letters of your name written in CAPITALS (name as mentioned in the Aadhaar card) and your Year of Birth (in YYYY format).
Example : Your name is Harsh
Your Year of Birth is 1989
Then you have to enter HARS1989
After opening the e-Aadhaar file through its password or e-Aadhaar password, you can print your e-Aadhaar card too.

Aadhaar card password is a combination of the first four letters of your name in Capital and your year of birth (YYYY). Therefore your Aadhaar card password should be JBAL2002.
