After recent announcements regarding Aadhaar linking deadlines for various services including banking, mutual funds and mobile phones, the deadline for postal account linking of Aadhaar has also been confirmed as December 31st 2017. In order to facilitate this process, India’s Department of Posts (DoP) has already announced the establishment of 585 new Aadhaar enrollment centres in the state of Andhra Pradesh according to a news report from The Hindu. The news report also mentioned that individuals can at present get their Aadhaar Identities updated at 1,595 post offices across the state.
The news report from The Hindu also mentions additional announcements including the fact that if a postal account holder fails to meet the Aadhaar and mobile number linking deadline, their account may be rendered inactive subject to Supreme Court’s verdict in the matter. The report also mentioned that the soon to be introduced Postal Payments Banks will provide all commercial banking services except loans and credit cards.
