Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for students who would appear in the next session of open school examinations to ensure that no proxy candidates give examinations on behalf of other candidates. National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has decided to make Aadhaar mandatory for all examinations conducted by the body after getting approval from the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development). The Government has already made Aadhaar mandatory for students appearing in JEE, NEET and UGC NET Examinations.
As per media reports, there were a number of instances where the inspection team had found proxy candidates appearing for other students in examinations held in March. The body will ensure that all examination centres have biometric scanning devices to check the authenticity of the candidate. If the thumb imprint data stored with UIDAI does not match with that of the candidate, he will not be allowed to sit in the examinations.
The board has also decided that all examination centres would be equipped with CCTV cameras and the whole examination would be recorded to ensure that the footage is available for inspection in future.
