How to Apply for PAN Card through Aadhar Card?

The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharam launched an ‘instant’ Aadhaar-based PAN allotment facility for all the individuals who want to obtain a unique identity for the first time on 25th June 2020.
This is free of cost facility and has been basically introduced as a large number of people has been applying for PAN Card lately for filing their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and for other tax-related matters.

Moreover, the Income Tax Department has launched this facility only for the resident individuals (excluding minors and others who are under Section 160 of the Income Tax Act). This facility is not available for HUF firms, Trusts, and companies, etc.

It is worth mentioning that if you already possess a valid PAN Card in your name, you cannot avail this facility of instant e-PAN. Also, your mobile number must be linked with Aadhaar Card as the process includes receiving a One Time Password (OTP) for verification purposes, and in case you don’t have your mobile number registered you will not be able to get an instant PAN Card.

Steps to Apply for PAN Card through Aadhaar Card

You can follow the steps mentioned below to get an Instant PAN or e-PAN through an Aadhaar Card:

Step 1: You need to visit the official website of the Income Tax Department https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-PAN/

Step 2: Click on the ‘Get New PAN’ option

Step 3:  You have to enter the 12-digit Aadhaar Number

Step 4: Enter the ‘Captcha Code’ for verification

Step 5: Tick mark the declaration i.e. ‘I confirm that’

Step 6: An OTP will be sent on the registered mobile number for the verification

Step 7: Once done, you will receive a 15-digit acknowledgement number for further tracking of PAN Card status

Note: e-PAN will also be sent if the email ID is registered with Aadhaar Card.

Steps to Check PAN Card Status Online

You can check the status of your PAN Card application online through the official website of either UTIITSL or NSDL by following the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Go to https://www.trackpan.utiitsl.com/PANONLINE/#forward

Step 2: Enter your application coupon number

Step 3: In case you forgot PAN Application Coupon Number, or enter your 10-digit PAN Number

Step 4: Enter Date of Birth/Incorporation/Agreement, etc.

Step 5: Enter the ‘Captcha Code’ for PAN Card transaction Status

Step 6: Now, click on the ‘Submit’ button

Step 7: Your PAN Card transaction status will appear on the screen

Note: It takes about 15 working days to receive the PAN Card after the application has been submitted. In case, you have not received your PAN Card within the set time frame, you can track your application status by entering a 15-digit acknowledgement number for the same.
