AU LIT Credit Card is a lifetime-free card that allows cardholders to choose benefits according to their lifestyle and spending behaviour. Cardholders can login to the AU 0101 app and select features they want to avail for the next 90 days. However, cardholders have to pay a quarterly fee ranging from Rs. 49 to Rs. 499, according to the benefit they choose.
The card offers a base reward earning rate of 1% (1 per Rs. 100) across all retail spends and up to 10X reward points on online as well as offline spends, depending on the feature you select. Additionally, cardholders can also avail 5% cashback on day-to-day categories like grocery, travel, dining, electronics, and apparel. On top of that, the card offers free memberships of ZEE5, Amazon Prime, and Cult Fit, along with complimentary lounge access and other basic benefits.
Although this card appears to be lifetime-free, it mostly incurs quarterly charges of around Rs. 299 or Rs. 499, which definitely put its lifetime-free status at risk. Even if you annualize a basic quarterly fee of Rs. 499, it sums up to an annual fee of around Rs. 1,996, that too for a single feature. For instance, to avail 5% cashback on groceries, you have to pay Rs. 299 for 90 days, which adds up to an annual fee of Rs. 1,196.
Also, it can be a bit challenging for cardholders to maximize benefits on this card, even on a single category. For instance, if you want to maximize benefits on travel, you have to opt for 5% cashback on travel spends, 10X points on online/offline spends, and milestone cashback of up to 5%. So, basically, to maximize benefits on a single category, you have to opt for three different features. Thus, it is too complex for cardholders to maximize their benefits, especially when cards like Cashback SBI offer 5% cashback across all online spends, irrespective of category and brand, at an annual fee of Rs. 999.
