The Axis Bank Shoppers Stop Credit Card is one of the many credit cards that have been launched for the migration of previously popular Citi credit cards (post-ownership transfer of Citibank to Axis Bank). For the First Citizen Citi Credit Card, the new Axis variant comes with slight revisions and improvisations such as better accelerated rewards and extended benefits towards dining. But, in comparison to the Citi card, the redemption value has been reduced to Rs. 0.5 per reward from Rs. 0.6.
Even with such revisions what remains intact is the loyalty towards the co-branded partner. Users are awarded First Citizen reward points for all their purchases, whether co-branded or general shopping, that are redeemable across shopping at Shoppers Stop. Thus, this card is a good option for Shoppers Stop loyalists who spend a considerable amount each month on shopping. However, this also puts in spot the card’s comparison with other co-branded Shopper Stop cards from another leading issuer, HDFC Bank.
While HDFC offers two co-branded variants with Shoppers Stop, this card is comparable to the entry-level Shoppers Stop HDFC Bank Credit Card. Both cards come with their own pros and cons. While the HDFC variant has an edge due to multiple redemption options and a higher redemption value of 1:1, the Axis card outshines due to unlimited rewards (no capping) and a higher return on the accelerated spends category.
To find the right card amongst these, apart from brand preference, users will also have to keep in mind the choice for the issuer. For those who don’t mind paying a high annual fee of Rs. 4,500, the premium co-branded HDFC variant, Shoppers Stop Black HDFC Black is also an option. In comparison to entry-level variants, this card offers up to 7% rewards, with benefits extending towards international and domestic lounge access. Users must also access their needs, if they are looking for general benefits on shopping, specific benefits on offline shopping, or benefits across other merchants, to accordingly explore other options.
