Since 2022, Axis Magnus has risen the charts fast, to become one of India’s most popular premium travel credit cards, owing to its high reward rate, excellent redemption ratio and the unique monthly milestone feature. However, 2 major devaluations in less than 12 months, have come as a major blow to Magnus users, with a majority of its premium benefits discontinued. Read about the updated features on Axis Magnus to know if it remains a top pick or has it fallen down the ranks.

Post two rounds of devaluation over the last one year, what still works for Axis Magnus is its reward earning rate of 12 points per Rs. 200. High-spenders who can reach Rs. 1.5 Lakh mark in a month can get even better value of 35 points per Rs. 200 and accumulate considerable points. The only problem here is that several high-ticket spend categories like utilities, jewellery, fuel, etc. are excluded from the rewards program as well as from spend milestone calculation. Some may see it as a major challenge in reaching the threshold of Rs. 1.5 Lakh.
Axis Bank has more airlines and hotels in their miles transfer program than HDFC Bank and cardholders can get a decent value on transferring points to miles at a ratio of 5:2. But when compared to other premium cards like HDFC Infinia and HDFC Diners Club Black, Magnus’ redemption rate looks low. Moreover, as travel partners are divided into Group A and Group B with maximum transfer limits of 1 Lakh and 4 Lakh respectively, consumers who are loyal to select airlines and hotels in Group A may not be able to maximize the card’s benefits.
Another important feature for travellers is the complimentary lounge access. Magnus still offers unlimited access but users (effective May 1, 2024) will now be able to avail this benefit if they spend Rs. 50,000 or more in the previous quarter. However, for premium credit card users, this condition should not be too difficult to meet. The card also features a low-forex mark-up fee.
Overall, Magnus may still hold value for high-spenders who also travel often as they can accumulate considerable number of points and redeem the same for travel benefits. However, those who seek additional premium features like concierge, airport meet and greet or all-round lifestyle benefits should consider other options.
