Earlier, Canara Bank issued only 4-6 digit account numbers to its customers. However, to make it more convenient for the digital platform, Canara Bank account numbers are converted to 13 digits. A new-age account number with 13 digits consists of some key information, such as branch code and account type to make it feasible for digital transactions. It’s compulsory for below digital payment options, such as
- NEFT (National Electronic Fund Transfer)
- RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement)
- IMPS (The Immediate Payment Services)
- UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
Structure of 13-digit Canara Bank Account Number
Canara Bank follows the 4+3+6 format for the 13-digit account number. Find below the break-up of its 13-digit account number:
- The first 4 digits represent the branch code or DP code (Canara bank branch where the account is held)
- The next 3 digits represent the account type (there is a code for every account type)
- The last 6 digits represent the account number issued by the bank.
For example, you hold a Canara Bank savings account at the Mumbai Grant Road branch. Let’s say, your account number is 4251. Then, 13 digit Canara Bank account number will be 0135-101-004251
- 0135 is the DP code for Canara Bank Mumbai Grant Road branch
- 101 is the account type code for the ordinary savings account
- 4251 is the actual account number. Prefix it with zeros to arrive at 6 digits.
