How does MMID work in IMPS?
Step 1: Open the IMPS fund transfer interface in the mobile app and choose the ‘send money’ option.
Step 2: Enter the registered 10-digit mobile number of the beneficiary along with the unique MMID. Both of these must be provided by the receiver. You can also choose to transfer money using the beneficiary’s bank account number, IFS code, and name of the account holder, if they do not have IMPS activated.
Step 3: Enter the amount you wish to transfer and confirm
You should always check all the details at least twice or even thrice before confirming the payment. Even a small mistake can lead to an incorrect money transfer.
- The combination of the phone number and MMID will never be the same for 2 individuals
- If the mistyped data does match someone else’s (the likelihood of this is extremely small), the funds will get transferred to this person’s account
- Banks are not liable for any wrong transactions
- In case of the wrong transaction, the only possible thing that you can do is to find the receiver and ask them to refund the transferred amount. However, if you do enter incorrect data, it will mostly not match anyone’s information. In this case, the transfer simply fails.
