The prices of cars and SUVs in Delhi are expected to rise as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has passed a proposal for the revision of one time parking charges. The one-time parking charges were last revised in 2004.
The aim behind this hike in the fees is to address the issue of pollution due to growing number of vehicles in the city as well as revenue generation, said Mohan Bhardwaj, Chairman of NDMC standing committee.
The one-time parking charges are levied at the time of registration of the vehicles. The proposal will raise the prices of cars and high-end non-commercial vehicles by Rs 6,000 to over Rs 6 lakhs. Further, prices of commercial vehicles will be raised by Rs 9,500 to Rs 36,000.
Auto rickshaws, e-rickshaws, two-wheelers and taxis will not be required to pay the one-time registration charges, said Mohan Bhardwaj, Chairman of NDMC standing committee.
However, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has passed a proposal exempting e- rickshaws and e-carts from one-time parking charges. But the corporation has yet to pass the proposal for the revision of one-time parking charges. The East Municipal Corporations has yet to pass the proposal for revision of one-time parking charges.
