On 7 June 2016, Datsun India finally launched their new product — redi-GO. With a price range starting from 2.38 Lakh INR and going up to Rs 3.34 Lakh (ex-showroom prices, Delhi), the car has become one of India’s most affordable cars. The car has been introduced with five variations: D, A, T, T(O) and S.
Based on CMF-A just like Renault’s Kwid, redi-GO is available in five different colors. The sizing of the car is modest, scaling 1541 mm in height, 3429 mm in length and 1560 mm in width. The model offers a boot space of 222 litres. Due to its light weight, the proposed fuel efficiency of the car is also high, when compared with others in the segment. The wheelbase of 2348 mm allows a better control over driving and leads to reduction in fatigue. The model is equipped with a ground clearance of 185 mm which is much superior to that of the competing brands like Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai EON. For transmission, the model comes with a 5-speed gearbox. The engine’s capacity of 54 PS pinnacle power is also a well thought and executed element.
While the concept had gained appreciation previously as well, the organized cabin along with modest quality features, such as audio system and daytime running lamps at such an affordable price, has pleasantly surprised everyone. Though sharing the same cylinder unit and petrol-powered engine measuring 799cc as Kwid, redi-GO has come up with a unique design of a ‘smart-car’ which is strikingly distinct from the Kwid’s SUV-like styling.
With a fuel-efficiency of 25.17 kmpl and a budget-friendly cost, the firm has been predicted to gain a vast customer base in the price-sensitive segment in India and achieve raging success in the industry.
