Jeep has finally come to India and made a return after a 2-decade gap. Jeep has entered the Indian market with its two models – The Grand Cherokee and The Wrangler. Along with these models, The Grand Cherokee SRT was also launched. The American brand launched itself in royal style in Jodhpur.
The prices of the 3 models as expected are high which is because these models are completely imported as Completely-Built-Up (CBU) units. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD comes at a price tag of Rs.71.59 lakhs, making it the cheapest in the company’s portfolio in India. The car was launched in just a single variant of 2.8-litre diesel engine mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox which makes 200 hp. The Wrangler is designed like a true off-roader which can take on any terrain with very conventional looks reminding you of the true-blue off-roaders. It is offered in a soft-top and hard-top.
The second model – The Grand Cherokee Limited is priced at Rs.93.64 lakhs, The Grand Cherokee Summit at Rs.1.03 crore and The Grand Cherokee SRT is priced at Rs.1.12 crore. The Grand Cherokee Summit and Limited come with a 3.0-litre V6 engines that make 240bhp & 286bhp, respectively. The Grand Cherokee SRT comes with big 6.4-litre V8 engine that produces 468bhp. All 3 variants are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Grand Cherokee is designed with a sporty look, unlike the Wrangler.
As of now, Jeep has only two dealerships in India – Delhi and Ahmedabad. However, Jeep’s dealership in Mumbai and Chennai are expected to start in October. After that Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi will follow later in the year. Jeep also inaugurated its parts distribution centre built in Chakan.
