Maruti Suzuki’s much-awaited Ignis is ready to make its Indian debut on 13th January 2017. The company has listed the model on their website as “coming soon”.
Ignis is expected to replace Maruti Ritz which may be considered as outdated in terms of features and specifications. Sales of Ritz have been also declining steadily over the last few months. Ignis will be sold through Nexa dealerships, making it the third car model for Nexa.
The car features a 1.2 litre petrol or 1.3 diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Currently there is no automatic transmission option, but it may be introduced later on.
This compact crossover is equipped with projector headlamps with LED DRLs, giving its dashboard a cutting-edge feel. The interiors include a touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay, Aux, USB and navigation. The standard safety features might include ABS with EBD along with dual front airbags.
The company had scheduled the launch of Ignis at the time of festive season but it got delayed as the company was slammed to meet production targets of Baleno and Vitara Brezza. Maruti’s Gujarat facility will be manufacturing the new models. The estimated launch price is between Rs 4 lakhs and Rs 7 lakh and the expected competitor in its segment will be Mahindra KUV100.
