Driven by sales of four premium models, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Baleno and S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) registered a sales growth of 16.2% and garnered over 48% market share in April 2016. These four premium models have been the primary growth drivers, contributing more than 25% share of its domestic sales of 1,00,709 units in April this year.
Sales of its utility vehicles such as Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza surged 260% to 16,044 units compared with 4,452 units sold in April 2015. Sales of its compact sedan segment also grew by 8% to 45,700 units in April 2016. The growth was mainly driven by Baleno, which outpaced Hyundai's i20 by selling 9,562 units.
Maruti Suzuki India’s mid-segment sedan Ciaz sold 5,702 units in April, falling short of segment leader Honda City by just 91 units. However, sale of the automaker’s mini segment cars such as Alto and WagonR saw a decline of 9.9%, falling from 35,403 units sold in April 2015 to 31,906 units in April 2016.
