Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the recently introduced compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) from Maruti, has garnered an unprecedented level of interest. The vehicle’s booking numbers since launch have already exceeded 40,000 units with new booking wait times of 3 to 5 months. First showcased by Maruti in the 2016 Auto Expo, this compact SUV was launched at a starting price of Rs. 6.99 lakhs up to a maximum of Rs. 9.68 lakhs for the premium variant (ex. showroom Delhi). However, the popularity of this new compact SUV has increased the wait times for new bookings to 3 months or more.
The diesel variant of Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3 litre, 89bhp engine, which drives a power train borrowed from Maruti’s Ciaz mid-size sedan facilitated by a 5-speed manual gear box. Due to its lighter body and compact design, this SUV delivers mileage of up to 25 kms per litre. Apart from the current manual diesel version, Maruti has also voiced intentions of introducing an automatic version as well as a petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza, which is expected to feature a cutting-edge 1 litre Boosterjet engine.
Key competitors of Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the Indian market include Mahindra TUV300 and Ford EcoSport. However as the new vehicle is being manufactured with a large degree of localisation, the Vitara has an edge over the competition in terms of pricing. Some key optional features available with the Vitara Brezza include steering mounted controls, cruise control, rear parking camera, speed sensitive door locks, driver airbag protection and more.
