The SUV Coupé GLE 450 AMG
Mercedes-Benz India, the country’s largest luxury automobile manufacturer, rolled out the GLE 450 AMG Coupé, the company’s first launch of 2016. With a price tag of Rs86.40 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai), the new SUV Coupé is expected to compete with the X4 and X6 models of luxury car maker BMW. Roland Folger, the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, was quoted saying, “The GLE Coupé is a valuable addition to our versatile SUV portfolio in India”.
Featuring an AMG-enhanced 3-litre V-6 bi-turbo engine, this sporty SUV Coupé, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in a mere 5.7 seconds. Available in five colours, the car is available with a parking package comprising a 360-degree camera including active parking assist. Standard safety features of the new car include six airbags and a preventive occupant protection system.
The driver assistant package provided with the new Mercedes-Benz SUV Coupé is designed to reduce vehicle drift during strong winds or gusting crosswinds at speeds of 80km per hour and above when driving on a straight road. Additionally, the GLE 450 AMG Coupé also features an audio-visual prompt system that alerts the driver to take a break when drowsiness is detected between speeds of 60 to 200 km per hour.
This inaugural launch is the first of 12 planned launches for Mercedes-Benz India in 2016, as it attempts to surpass its 32% year on year growth recorded in 2015. Last year, the company launched 15 new models in India and sold 13,502 cars to emerge as India’s largest luxury car manufacturer. At present, Mercedes-Benz India plans to import the GLE 450 AMG Coupé from Germany as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) to be sold in India.
