German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes- Benz posted record sales of 13,502 units in India in 2015. This is a significant jump of 32% over 10,201 units sold in 2014 and it is also the highest sales volume recorded by the company in a single calendar year in India.
The manufacturer is planning to add 12 new products to its portfolio in 2016, some of which are without any predecessor in India. It will also inaugurate 10 new outlets in its existing and new markets and introduce retail activities in tier II and III cities to facilitate growth in such potential markets.
In an official statement, the company said that its luxury sedans comprising the CLA, C-Class, E-Class and the S-Class grew by 42% in 2015 while its SUV portfolio consisting GLA, GLE and GL-Class clocked 100% growth. It also added that its exclusive and top-end performance brand Mercedes-AMG and the Dream Cars portfolio grew by 54% in the same period.
Mercedes-Benz India added three new products — GLA, CLA and the Mercedes-Maybach S 500 — to its local production portfolio for India and doubled its production facility to become the largest luxury car manufacturer in the country. The cumulative investment in its production facility was also increased to Rs 1,000 crores, which is the highest for any luxury carmaker in India.
