When Renault launched the Kwid last year, customers were wooed by its SUV-like styling and an affordable pricetag. Although the car went on to sell in huge numbers but the customers wanted more. Especially from the engine of the car which most customers thought was underpowered.
For those customers, Renault has finally, after a year-long wait, launched the Renault Kwid 1.0 Litre SCe with just a slight increase of Rs 22,000 in the price. The new Kwid starts at Rs 3.83 lakhs and the new engine improves the fuel economy which delivers just a little over 23kmpl. The bookings of the new Kwid 1.0Ltr have already started. The company claims that they have a lot of stock for immediate deliveries.
The new Kwid 1.0 Litre comes only in the top two variants– RXT (O) and RXT but the upgrade from the existing 800cc will be totally worth the deal. The 1.0 litre SCe engine which is also known as Smart Control efficiency delivers about 68PS of power and a 91 Nm of torque. These figures have been upped from 54PS and 72Nm of the previous 800cc car.
Look and feel
Renault has not made any big changes to the already good looking Kwid but has made some changes which can differentiate the 1.0 Ltr from its younger sibling. The interiors remain the same with the best-in-class digital console, the 7-inch touch screen Media Nav system, etc. Some more cubby holes are a welcome addition inside the car.
Drive
Early drivers who’ve driven the car are saying it’s “more responsive” when you hit the paddle and “much more refined”. It is better to have a test drive and decide yourself.
Safety
Renault has now added new seat belts with load limiters which would add extra safety in the new model. The seat belts are added with pro-sense pretentioners.
Competition
The new Kwid 1.0 SCe comes in 2 trims. The only competition to Maruti’s AltoK10, Celerio and WagonR and Hyundai’s EON.
