Emerging as the next-generation MPV, the new Toyota Innova 2016 has been given a more aggressive and masculine stance as compared to the ongoing 2014 model. The Japanese giant is said to launch the new model around the end of 2016 or early 2017. However, in order to assess some valuable public reaction, Toyota might showcase the product at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February.
The new model will receive compelling changes to its exterior styling with a flatter and taller front design, LED projector headlights, a new bumper and a massive hexagonal front grille — giving it a more robust manifestation. Currently, the wheel arches are subtler, and the headlights are more boxy and less rounded with sharp edge styling.
The MPV’s rear profile also receives a bracing appearance with chrome highlighted license plate enclosure, a new bumper, multi-layered bootlid and revised tail lamps. With 4735mm length, 1795mm height, 1830mm width and 2750mm wheelbase, the MPV yields a more generous cabin space in comparison to the ongoing model. It is claimed to be much stiffer and lighter than the current variant, thanks to its built on the all-new platform named the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).
With major emphasis on improved comfort for its occupants, the interior of the new MPV looks roomier and more appealing. It is expected to be equipped with enhanced features such as seven airbags, automatic climate control, anti-lock braking system (with electronic brakeforce distribution), a touch-screen infotainment with navigation system, reverse camera and a multifunction steering wheel. Furthermore, it will have two captain seats in the second row and a flat seat in the third.
The Innova 2016 will come in three trim levels- G, V and Q- powered by an all-new 2.4-litre GD diesel (147bhp, 360Nm) and 2.0-litre petrol (137bhp, 183Nm) engine. In addition, it is likely to offer two transmission options- a 6-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual.
The biggest vantage point for the new Innova 2016 would be its ready Indian market with a colossal success history of its current variant. So, essentially, all Toyota has to prove is that it has not lapsed in terms of performance in comparison to its forerunner model.
