Kotak Mahindra Bank, in collaboration with PVR Cinemas, has launched credit cards in two variants- Kotak PVR Platinum Credit Card and Kotak PVR Gold credit card. Both these cards are targeted at the youngsters to offer movie benefits in the form of free tickets. Users can avail up to 2 free movie tickets per month if they meet the spending conditions set by the bank for each billing cycle. However, there are no benefits on the card for any other category whatsoever. Here is a detailed review of Kotak PVR Credit Cards.
PVR Movie Offer
The same movie benefit is offered on Gold and Platinum variants. Cardholders can get up to 2 free movie tickets worth Rs. 400 each on reaching the spending threshold for the said billing cycle. The card rewards free movie tickets in the following order:
Card Name | Free Ticket Condition |
Kotak PVR Platinum Credit Card | Spend Rs. 10,000 in a month to get two tickets |
Kotak PVR Gold credit card |
|
As you can see, the cards are too narrow in terms of rewards and benefits they offer. Many people who don’t go to the movies as often or people who won’t be able to spend Rs. 10,000 in a month may not find these cards beneficial. As opposed to that, if you regularly manage to spend Rs. 15,000 or more, this may seem like a good deal.
Although Kotak PVR credit cards are movie cards and don’t offer any other benefits, there are a lot of terms and conditions applied on the offer. You cannot book a ticket at all the PVR Cinema theatres; nor can you avail premium seats at the participating theatres. There is also a cap of Rs. 400 per ticket and you must redeem the tickets within 2 billing cycles.

If you wish to go a little higher with the annual fee, you may try YES FIRST Preferred Credit Card. It not only offers 25% off on movie tickets booked through BookMyShow but also other benefits like reward points, multiple redemption options, golf benefit, Priority Pass membership and charges only Rs. 2,500 as annual fees. The only difference could be in terms of ease of approval. The eligibility criteria for Kotak Credit Cards might be more relaxed than that for the YES Bank Credit Card.

Drawbacks of PVR Platinum Credit Card
Kotak PVR credit cards are dedicated movie rewards credit cards. So, they do not provide any offer or benefit outside of this field. It is very disappointing to see that the cards do not even offer any reward points on the purchases, which is a common feature across all credit cards in the market. And, on top of that, the cards charge annual fee of Rs. 499 and Rs. 999 which in a way is not justified.
Customers who want a much more rewarding experience should definitely consider other credit cards.
