If you’ve spotted an error in your Experian credit report, follow the steps mentioned below to raise a dispute with Experian:
Step 1: Visit the official website of Experian and log in to your account or click here.
Step 2: On the top of the page, find the option of Dispute and select “Raise Dispute” from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: Fill the form thus opened and “Submit” after thoroughly checking the details entered.
You will receive a notification on the correspondence provided by you in the form as an acknowledgement of your complaint. Please keep it safe as it will be helpful to track your dispute later.
Important Points Regarding Experian Dispute Filing
When filing a complaint to correct detail(s) in your Experian credit report, do consider the following points:
- Quote your Experian Report Number, or ERN, when filing your complaint. This is a 15-digit number mentioned on the top of your Experian credit report that will be used by customer support to validate your information.
- Highlight the nature of the dispute to avoid any confusion/latency.
- You should receive an acknowledgement of your complaint within 24 hours or by the next business day.
- Experian would take up to 3 business days (from the date of receipt of complaint) to initiate action on your complaint.

Understand How Experian Handles Disputes
The cycle of raising disputes by you, the consumer, and resolving the dispute by the bureau, i.e. Experian is simple. Let’s see how:
When you (the consumer) raise a complaint – Experian contacts the concerned credit institution (bank or other financial institution) for verification
Scenario 1: If rectification is confirmed by the institute contacted (i.e. the concerned bank or lender that shared your credit information), Experian corrects the mistake and informs you (the consumer).
Scenario 2: If the data provider confirms that the information mentioned in your credit report is correct, i.e. there are no errors, Experian will close the complaint and notify you (i.e. the consumer).
Note: This process takes up to 30 days from the receipt of the complaint.

Note: It is advised to wait for up to 45 days from the date of filing the dispute before you work on further correspondence.
If there is a change in your credit report post-dispute, Experian will most likely share the updated credit report with you along with a notification via SMS and/or email. Study this updated report thoroughly and in case you find further discrepancies than the ones corrected in your credit report, inform Experian about the same immediately.
