Marriott International’s travel loyalty program – The Marriott Bonvoy – is now in India with the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card, which also happens to be India’s first co-branded credit card with a hotel chain. The Marriott Bonvoy is present in several countries, including the USA and Japan (in partnership with American Express) and now has been launched in India in association with HDFC Bank. Offering multiple benefits across Marriott properties worldwide, this card is ideal for Marriott loyalists. Unlike Axis Reserve and HDFC Infinia that provide benefits on Marriott properties located only in South Asia, the Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Bank Credit Card would provide benefits to consumers at all 400+ Marriott properties across the globe.

- 20 Marriott Bonvoy Points for every Rs. 150 spent on travel, dining, & entertainment
The Marriott Bonvoy HDFC Card offers benefits at Marriott-owned properties around card activation, milestone benefits and reward earnings and redemption. Needless to say, this card is a good choice for those who travel frequently and have a liking for Marriott properties. Cardholders will be rewarded with Marriott Bonvoy Points, which can be used to avail travel services and book stays at participating luxury hotels such as St. Regis, JW Marriott, Le Méridien and Sheraton, among others. Check the list of participating hotels under the Marriott Bonvoy Program.
In the USA, multiple cards under the Marriott Bonvoy program (with annual fees ranging from zero to USD 650), each targeted at a different segment, have been launched in the last few years. The Marriott Bonvoy card from HDFC Bank comes at an annual fees of only Rs. 3,000, and seems to target largely mid-segment travelers. One can stay at a luxury property like Fairfield by Marriott in Goa worth ~Rs 10,000* per night for free or a nominal cost through the Free Night Award welcome benefit. Currently, this card is issued at only Diner’s Club network in India, which might not be easily accepted as Visa, Mastercard or RuPay network.
It looks like the card will be testing waters for the Marriott Bonvoy program in India. It’d be interesting to see like other international markets, if more cards under the program are launched here, especially for the elite and high-spending super-premium segments.
*Actual cost of stay may vary as per booking date and other factors.
