HDFC Bank Pixel Play Credit Card, a digital card, is a superior variant of the other Pixel Card—HDFC Bank Pixel Go. In comparison to the base variant, Pixel Play offers an option to choose cashback earning categories, card design, and favored billing cycle date. The customizable features on the card bring it in close comparison to the AU Bank LIT credit card that functions on a similar model.
However, unlike the Play variant that comes with a fixed additional fee of Rs. 500, AU LIT cardholders need to pay for the features they use with a quarterly fee ranging from Rs. 49 to Rs. 499, despite it being claimed as a lifetime free credit card.
In comparison to the AU card, which comes with a wider variety of features to choose from, such as rewards structure, milestone benefits, memberships, lounge access, cashback category, and fuel surcharge waiver, the HDFC Play card has some fixed features around benefits on Smartbuy, UPI, and other general spends. The only customizable feature on the card is to choose two from five cashback-earning combinations covering six categories and 10 popular brands like Myntra, Nykka, Zomato, BookMyShow, Reliance Digital, etc. Users can also choose between Amazon, Flipkart or PayZapp to earn 3% cashback on any one e-commerce merchant.
The card comes with its own share of pros and cons. Unlike the AU card, the customization does not offer any option to choose basic lifestyle benefits like lounge access. However, due to a limited number of custom options available, the structure on the card is comparatively simpler for the consumers to understand. Besides, card users get complimentary welcome and renewal benefits every year in the form of fee waivers—low spend thresholds that bring down the fee to 0.
Note that the cashback on the card is offered in the form of CashPoints, redeemable as PayZapp wallet balance. This can be used to pay bills, recharge, or purchase vouchers from 100+ brands. Though the redemption options are diverse, it is restricted to PayZapp. Thus, before availing this card, it is better to assess if you would be comfortable sticking to PayZapp to maximize value back on the card. Additionally, note the capping across the cashback category and if it is a sufficient return for the amount you spend every month.
