BNP Paribas Mutual Fund has announced NFO of the BNP Paribas India Consumption Fund from 17th August to 31st August, 2018. The fund is a consumption focused sector fund. Key investment sectors featured as part of the scheme’s consumption theme include financial, construction, cement, automotive, consumer durables/non-durables and telecom.
As a thematic scheme, the BNP Paribas India Consumption Fund would invest between 80 to 100% of its total assets into equity and equity-derivatives of consumption oriented companies. Up to 20% of the scheme’s assets may be invested in liquid funds as well as other money market and debt investments.
This scheme will be benchmarked against the Nifty 200 Total Return Index. Financial services, consumer goods and energy companies account for 34.32%, 12.92% and 12.90% weightage on this index. The 1 year and 5 year returns of Nifty 200 have been recorded at 10.81% and 16.89%. As of 31st July the index features a P/E of 31.8.
The equity portion of the BNP Paribas India Consumption Fund will be managed by Karthikraj Lakshmanan and Abhijeet Dey, while the debt investments of the scheme will be managed by Mayank Prakash. Currently the team of Lakshmanan and Dey also manage other popular equity schemes including the BNP Paribas Multi Cap Fund (AUM Rs. 891 crore) and the BNP Paribas Large Cap Fund (AUM Rs. 893 crore). Mayank Prakash is currently part of the team that manages the most popular BNP Paribas debt scheme – the BNP Paribas Liquid Fund which features an AUM of Rs. 2,322 crore.
