How to Apply for Lost PAN Card Online
The government has ensured adequate provisions to cover the loss of the PAN card. The option to reprint the PAN card is provided online and that too in a simple and trouble-free application process. Below mentioned are simple steps through which all individuals can reprint their lost PAN card.
- Log into the website of TIN/NSDL (now Protean)
- Select the tab menu of online application for PAN
- After selecting the above tab, applicants can choose the preference of “Reprint PAN Card.” This option is basically for stolen, lost or misplaced PAN card.
- After clicking the above-mentioned link, the page would be automatically redirected to a different navigation pane where the applicant needs to click the option “Online Application for changes/correction in PAN data” link.
- After clicking the aforementioned link, a new page with instructions and guidelines would appear. After reading these guidelines, the applicant can select the type of PAN they need to apply i.e. individual/company/HUF/firm etc.).
- After selecting the type of PAN Card, the applicant needs to fill up the online application form wherein details such as existing Permanent Account Number, applicant’s name, communication address, contact number, email id, etc. need to be filled.
- Post-filling the details, necessary documents such as ID proof and photographs have to be attached along with the form. The documents should be self-attested by the applicant before submission.
- The application form can either be submitted online or sent by post to NSDL, along with the necessary documents.
- The application fee of Rs. 50 for resident individual or Rs. 959 for a non-resident individual (communication address outside India) can be paid through various means
- The payment of application fee can be done through a debit card/credit card, net banking or demand draft.
- Once the application fee is paid successfully an acknowledgement number will be generated which is required for all future correspondences.

Steps to Apply for Lost PAN Card Offline
Apart from the online option to apply for a lost PAN card, the government has also endowed the offline mode of application. Below mentioned are the steps which one needs to follow while applying for a lost PAN card.
- One can obtain the application form for ‘Request for New PAN Changes or Correction in PAN Data’ Form which is duly available at any TIN-Facilitation Centres, or any IT PAN Service Centres or PAN Centres, or even at various stationery vendors.
- The form can also be downloaded from Income Tax Department website: www.incometaxindia.gov.in // UTIITSL website: www.utiitsl.com // NSDL website: www.tin-nsdl.com.
- The PAN application form needs to be filled in BLOCK LETTERS and with BLACK INK.
- The necessary details in the form can be filled in the English language only
- Applicants should mention their existing 10-digit PAN.
- Applicants should ensure that only one character is filled in each box provided and should leave a box blank after each word.
- In case of an individual applicant, 2 recent coloured photographs are required to be affixed in the space available on top of the form.
- The signature or left-hand thumb impression of the applicant is required across the photo placed on the left-hand side of the form
- A full signature or the Left-hand thumb impression is also required to be done in the box provided on the right side of the application form.
- In case of thumb impression, the same should be duly attested by any Magistrate or a public notary or any gazetted government officer under his official seal and stamp.
- In case the applicant wants to update one or more alternative addresses apart from the communication address, the checkbox on left-hand margin needs to be ticked and details of such address can be mentioned on an additional page in the similar format as prescribed.
- The processing fee for PAN application with the correspondence address within India is Rs. 50 The PAN application fee for any non-resident where the correspondence address outside India is Rs. 959
- Either of the applicable charges has to be paid by cash/cheque or DD at the counter while submitting the application form.
General Instruction for Non-individual applicants
- For any other Non-individual entity, proof of identity with the date of formation/incorporation and proof of correspondence address is mandatory.
- Name of office and complete office address is mandatory for firms, limited companies, LLPs, trusts, societies or associations.

Documents Required for Lost PAN Card – Individual Applicants
Identity proof: A valid photo identity proof is mandatory for a PAN card application. The ID proof should bear the name of the applicant, photo, date of birth, signature and father’s name of the applicant. Any change or correction required in PAN should be supported by a relevant document. The applicant may submit either any one or the combination of relevant documents as mentioned below:
