Objectives of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
The government-run programme aims to fulfill the following objectives:
- To provide compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives so that the woman can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the first living child. It is a partial compensation which is a part of a plan to provide a total sum of Rs. 6,000 on an average to the woman. The remaining cash incentive (of Rs. 1,000) is provided under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) after institutional delivery.
- To improve health seeking behaviour amongst pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Targeted Beneficiaries of PMMVY
- All pregnant women and lactating mothers excluding the ones who are in regular employment with the Central/State Government or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) or those who are in receipt of similar benefits under any law.
- All eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers who have their pregnancy on or after January 01, 2017 for the first child in the family.
The date and stage of pregnancy for a beneficiary is counted with respect to her Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date as mentioned in the Mother and Child Protection (MCP) card.
Incentive Disbursal Structure Under PMMVY
Under PMMVY, a cash incentive of Rs. 5,000 is disbursed in 3 instalments.
How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
A beneficiary can apply for the scheme only within 730 days from the date of her Last Menstrual Period (MP). The LMP registered in the MCP card will be treated as the Date of Pregnancy under the scheme.
Offline Procedure for Availing Maternity Benefits Under PMMVY
Step 1: The eligible women who wish to avail maternity benefits under the scheme need to register for the scheme at an Anganwadi Centre ( AWC ) or at an approved (government) health facility, whichever is the implementing department for that particular State /Union Territory. The registration must be done within 150 days of LMP.
Documents Required:
- Duly filled Application Form 1A
- Copy of MCP card
- Copy of Identity Proof
- Copy of Bank/Post Office Account Passbook
- An undertaking/consent duly signed by the applicant and her husband,
The application form can be obtained from the AWC/approved health facility free of cost or be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The applicant should obtain an acknowledgment of registration from the implementing authority for future references.
Step 2: The beneficiary can claim the 2nd instalment of the incentive after 6 months of pregnancy by submitting the duly filled Form 1B at the AWC/approved health facility along with a copy of MCP card showing at least one Antenatal Check-up (ANC) and a copy of acknowledgment slip Form 1A. The 2nd instalment can be claimed post 180 days of pregnancy.
Step 3: For claiming 3rd instalment, the beneficiary is required to submit duly filled up Form 1C along with a copy of child birth registration, ID proof and MCP card showing that the child has received first cycle of immunization of CG, OPV, DPT and Hepatitis B. The applicant is also required to show a copy of acknowledgment slip Form 1A and Form 1B. The applicant needs to submit a copy of Aadhaar card at this stage. Aadhaar card is required in all states except for Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Assam and Meghalaya.

Online Procedure for Availing Maternity Benefits Under PMMVY
Step 1: Visit https://pmmvy-cas.nic.in and log in into the PMMVY software using the scheme facilitator’s (AWC/approved health facility) login details.
Step 2: Click on ‘New Beneficiary’ tab for registering under the scheme by filling in the details as per the Beneficiary Registration Form (also called Application Form 1A). You can follow the instructions provided in PMMVY CAS User Manual for filling the form.
Step 3: After 6 months of pregnancy, again log in into the PMMVY CAS software and click on ‘Second Instalment’ tab and fill Form 1B following the instructions given in the user manual.
Step 4: After the birth of the child and the completion of his/her first cycle of immunization of CG, OPV, DPT and Hepatitis B, log in into the PMMVY CAS software and click on ‘Third Instalment’ tab and fill Form 1C following the instructions given in the user manual.

What Happens in Case of Miscarriage or Still Birth?
In the case of a miscarriage or still birth, a beneficiary would be eligible to claim the remaining instalment(s) for a future pregnancy.
For instance, if after receiving the 1st instalment of cash incentive, the beneficiary has a miscarriage, she would only be eligible for receiving 2nd and 3rd instalment for a future pregnancy.
What Happens in Case of Infant Mortality?
In the case of infant mortality, a beneficiary would not be eligible for claiming benefits under the scheme, if she has already received all the instalments of the maternity benefit under PMMVY earlier.

Yes, beneficiaries can avail the benefit who undergo ANC and delivery in private hospital, provided the conditionalities of all the three instalments are fulfilled. However, MCP card is mandatory to claim the first instalment.

You can apply for benefits under the PMMVY scheme within 730 days from LMP date or 460 days from the date of childbirth (in case of unavailability of LMP date), provided you meet the other eligibility criteria of the scheme.
