Axis Bank and fitness firm GoQii have decided to collaborate for launching wearable devices for the bank’s customers. GoQii, formed by Vishal Gondal, is one of the leading Indian fitness band makers. According to Rajiv Anand, head of retail banking, Axis Bank, the device will be the first MasterCard certified wearable device, which will allow customers to make NFC payments.
The device will come equipped with regular fitness-related features associated with GoQii bands. The band will essentially have an activity tracker to monitor movement and other essential information of the person wearing the device. On the band’s display, you will be able to see your step count, calories burned, and distance walked in kilometers and hours.
It is expected to be rolled out over the next few months. By associating with such gadgets, the bank is aiming to incentivise its customers to adopt a healthier lifestyle. According to Anand, the bank is already offering wealth management services to its clients and now wants to offer health management services as well. Currently, many companies are working on how to use wearables, either for their customers or for their employees.
