India Post Payments Bank is providing QR cards to all account holders. These cards are similar to ATM cards and can be used to withdraw money from IPPB accounts. However, these specialized cards do not have the magstripe or micro-chip for authenticating the transactions. Here, the authentication for validating a transaction is carried out through the biometric authentication.
What are QR Cards?
A QR card is similar to a debit card but it has the QR code of the account printed on the front instead of the card number. A QR code is a unique machine-readable code consisting of an array of black and white squares. It contains the detailed information of a specific account.
When a QR card is scanned in the app of India Post Payments Bank, the executive can access your bank details and carry out transactions after your biometric authentication.
Features of the IPPB QR Card
The QR Card offered by India Post Payments Bank has a number of features. Some of these are mentioned below:
Features of India Post Payments Bank QR Cards | |
Unique Account Identity | A unique QR code contains all details of the account. |
Convenience | The account holder need not remember the savings account number. |
Secure and Safe | No transaction can be carried out without biometric authentication. |
Simple and Affordable | No expensive PoS machines are required for merchants. The card can be scanned using mobile phones. |
How to use the QR Card
Follow these simple steps to use the QR card:
- Scan the code using your mobile phone
- Provide fingerprint and authenticate using a biometric device.
- Enter the value and complete the transaction instantly.
Are QR Cards Safe?
QR cards are safe enough and account holders cannot be duped of their money in the account. Even though the QR code can be scanned and saved, no transactions can be performed using only the QR card. One has to provide the fingerprint to validate a transaction.
PIN is not required to authenticate transactions for these cards as opposed to ATM cards. Even if your card is lost, no transactions can be carried out through this card. In case the QR code is scanned without the knowledge of the account holder, the transaction will not be completed as Aadhar biometric verification is mandatory to process the transaction.
What to do if the QR Card is Lost?
In case your card is lost, you can get a new QR card issued. You can either visit a nearby India Post Payments Bank branch or call at IPPB’s toll-free number 155299 and place a request for a new card.
The account holder has to pay a reissuance fee of ₹ 25/- for the new card. It is worth mentioning that new QR cards are provided free of cost at the time of opening the account.
