Cardholders having magstripe (ATM cards having only magnetic strip on the rear side) cards have to get new debit cards. The bank is, however, providing these updated cards free of cost and many of those have no annual fee as well. Customers can choose a card as per their preference. What is an EMV Chip Card?
An EMV chip card is a type of smart payment card that contains an electronic chip with a microprocessor. Instead of storing data on the magnetic stripe, data is stored on integrated circuits in the EMV chip in these cards. Whenever a transaction is carried out through these cards, a dynamic data is provided making it almost impossible to clone or duplicate and carry out fraudulent activities.
These chips also have the capability to store loyalty information which can be used to earn and redeem loyalty points at participating merchants. Account holders can apply for upgrading their card either by logging in to their internet banking account or by visiting the home branch.

You should link your PAN card with your bank account first. It can be done by logging in and selecting “PAN Registration” in the e-Services tab. Once your PAN is linked with your SBI savings account, you can apply for a fresh ATM card online.
