Tarde License is a legal document that permits an entrepreneur to commence a specific trade in a particular location. Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Trade License is required by an applicant who seek to start business only in Kolkata. This license / Certificate of Enlistment is majorly required by start-ups and small businesses. To start any type of business, entrepreneurs need to obtain incorporation certificate, firm registration certificate, shop and establishment certificate, Udyog Aadhar registration, employee state insurance number, etc. Even the registration process varies from state to state in India.

Process of KMC Trade License – Offline

Step 1: Collect the application form from the KMC department

Step 2: Fill in the application form and attach all the required documents, including property tax receipt and ownership proof of business

Step 3: Submit all the documents to the KMC department, so authorize in-charge can check and verify the documents

Step 4: The person in-charge will send the file to the Head of Department to seek permission for further formalities

Step 5: Once the Head of Department sends the documents to the relevant authority, then inspection and verification of business place will be performed

Step 6: License inspector then generate a demand on the basis of recommendation

Step 7: Applicant needs to pay the defined fees for the demand

Step 8: After fee submission, Trade License will be issued

Process of KMC Trade License – Online

Step 1: Visit the official website of KMC or click here

Step 2: Fill in the application form and attached all the required documents

Step 3: After filling the form and attaching documents, submit the application form

Step 4: After submission, the concerned authority will conduct inspection

Step 5: If the inspection is approved, then the applicant is required to pay the fees

Step 6: After fee submission, Certificate of Enlistment or Trade License will be issued

Area (in Sq. ft.), air conditioned, monthly rent in Rs., Name of Proprietor/Partners/Director(s) /Manager/Karta, water supply consumer, SSI Reg. No, animal type, no. of carts, consumer no., IT industry certificate number and quantity.

Business Nature

Nature of business, sub nature and item details.

Awing, Purdah, Screen, Projection

Length and breadth in feet.

Documents required:

For Companies or Private Limited Companies:

• Declaration in Form No. 32
• Form No. 18
• Memorandum of Articles (MoA) / Articles of Association (AoA)
• Proof of occupancy

In case of Partnership Firm, the Partnership deed needs to be submitted.

Submit documents in support of place of business:

• In case of tenant, rent bill
• If owned by petitioner, tax bill
• In case of lessee, lease-deed
• In case of relative, to submit consent letter from the owner, in case if rent free accommodation is granted by the premises owner

Renewal Process & Validity of Trade License

The validity of Trade License is of one year. Applicants needs to renew their Trade license of certificate or enlistment every year. The applicant will be intimated before the due date of certificate’s expiry date. The demand for certificate renewal are raised every year and are sent to the traders by KMC. The instructions are mentioned on the back side of the demand. The applicant needs to pay the renewal fees online or offline to get the renewed trade license certificate. The payment shall be paid in the form of cheque, cash, demand draft or pay order in favour of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
